It is indeed an admirable decision by King Gyanendra to reinstate Parliament of Nepal. The seven political parties have been in a republican mood, with the demonstrators defying the shoot-on-sight curfiew in Kathmandu. The King has not mentioned anything about the newly elected assembly to form a new constitution, though. He says:” We call upon the seven-party alliance to bear the responsibility of taking the nation on the path to national unity and prosperity, while ensuring permanent peace and safeguarding multiparty democracy”.His attitude is giving hope. The place where teargas, batons, rubber bullets had their roles against the protestors is now giving the boom of victory. The Maoist insurgency has taken around 13000 lives in Nepal, in the last 10 years, to achieve sovereignty. The King Gyanendra assumed powers in February 2005, saying the parties would be unable to deal with Maoist rebels. Though the sky is becoming clear, still some clouds of fear on the Maoist rebels prevails, as they are growing to be a well-organised guerilla army, worth inviting some intelligent military means to be controlled.Nepalese have a common mindset similar to that of a wife comparing and complaining about the car/washing machine next doors, to her husband! The only difference is that Nepalese are not asking anything more, just fed up with their plea for democracy, and they know their neighbour India has it in practice.Though the King had suggested the political parties to discuss and select a suitable prime minister for Nepal, the public is not at all happy with that. They say he is offering what he had taken away from them once. They no longer want the King to appoint or dismiss a Primeminister, a rubber stamp rather, at his pace. They are adamant that they will not be satisfied with anything less than a redrafted constitution and democracy. The lower house of the Nepal Parliament is to summon this Friday for reinstating the parliament.Hope their hue a cry wont go in vain and the monarchy will give its way to democracy, with a redrafted constitution, promising freedom and peace to all.Kudos to nepalese!!
